Matchbook Privacy Policy

Who is responsible for your data

Matchbook is owned and operated by Triplebet Limited. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Triplebet Limited is the data controller of the personal information you give us when you open an account, bet on the exchange or use any other part of our service.

We hold a licence from the UK Gambling Commission (account number 39504), and that licence shapes much of what follows. We are required to know who our customers are, to keep gambling safe and to retain certain records. Privacy and regulation pull in the same direction here: we collect what we genuinely need and no more.

This page applies to players in the United Kingdom. You must be 18 or over to hold an account, so we do not knowingly collect data about anyone younger.

Who else sees your information

We do not sell your personal data. We do share it with carefully chosen third parties who help us run the service, and only to the extent they need it.

  • Payment providers and banks that process your deposits and withdrawals.
  • Identity and fraud-prevention services that check documents, addresses and credit-reference or risk data to confirm you are who you say you are.
  • Game and platform providers whose software we offer, which may receive limited technical and account identifiers to deliver play.
  • Analytics and hosting suppliers that keep our infrastructure running and show us how the site is used.
  • Regulators, law enforcement and courts when we are legally required to disclose information, including to the UK Gambling Commission.

Where a supplier handles data on our behalf, it is bound by a written agreement to protect it and to act only on our instructions. If data is ever transferred outside the UK, we make sure an approved safeguard is in place.

Cookies, security and safer gambling

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember preferences and understand how the site performs. You can control non-essential cookies through your browser and any consent tools we provide. For the detail, see our terms and conditions.

We protect your data with technical and organisational measures, including access controls and encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, so we also limit who inside the company can see your information.

Gambling should stay enjoyable. If it stops being so, GamCare offers free, confidential support on 0808 8020 133 or at gamcare.org.uk. Our responsible gambling page explains the tools available to you.

What we collect, and why we need it

Let us be specific rather than vague. The information we hold falls into a few groups.

  • Identity and contact details: your name, date of birth, address, email address and phone number. We need these to register you, to confirm you are of legal age and to reach you about your account.
  • Verification documents: proof of identity, proof of address and, where the law or our risk checks require it, evidence of the source of your funds.
  • Financial information: deposits, withdrawals, payment method references and your betting and gaming history. We hold this to run your balance, settle bets and meet accounting and anti-money-laundering duties.
  • Technical data: IP address, device type, browser, operating system and login times. We use it for security, fraud detection and to keep the site working properly.
  • Communications: messages you send to support by live chat or email, so we can resolve queries and keep a record of what was agreed.
  • Safer gambling information: deposit limits, time-outs, self-exclusion status and any signals that suggest gambling may be harming you.

We do not ask for anything we have no use for. If a form field is optional, it will say so.

Our legal basis for using your data

We only process personal data when UK law gives us a lawful reason to do so. In practice we rely on four.

Contract. To provide your account, accept your bets and pay out your winnings, we must process your details. Without that, we simply cannot serve you.

Legal obligation. Our licence and the law require age and identity checks, anti-money-laundering controls, record-keeping and safer gambling interventions. Here we have no real choice.

Legitimate interests. We use limited data to prevent fraud, secure our systems, improve the product and defend legal claims, always weighing this against your rights.

Consent. Where we send you marketing or set non-essential cookies, we ask first. You can withdraw consent at any time, and doing so will not affect anything we did lawfully beforehand.

Your rights and how to use them

UK data protection law gives you real control over your information. You may ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you (access);
  • correct anything inaccurate or incomplete (rectification);
  • delete your data where we have no overriding reason to keep it (erasure);
  • hand over your data in a portable, commonly used format (portability);
  • stop or limit processing based on our legitimate interests, or stop direct marketing (objection and restriction).

To make a request, contact our support team by live chat or at support@matchbook.com. We may need to confirm your identity first, which protects you from someone else impersonating you. We aim to respond within one month. Some requests cannot be granted in full, for instance where the law obliges us to keep a record, and if so we will tell you why.

If you remain unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority for data protection. We would, of course, like the chance to put things right first.

How long we keep it

We keep personal data only for as long as there is a good reason to. Account details stay while your account is open. After closure, we retain certain records for the periods required by gambling, tax and anti-money-laundering rules, and for as long as a complaint or legal claim could reasonably arise.

Once those periods end, we delete the data or anonymise it so it can no longer identify you. Self-exclusion records are held for longer by design, because removing them too soon could put a vulnerable customer at risk.
